Hi,
I'm just wondering if it's possible to view normal maps in maya? I've generated a normal map with ORB and I wanna know how to apply the normal map on the lowpoly model in maya..

Any help is appriciated!

if your graphic card allows you, turn on 'high quality rendering' under the shading tab in the view. if you cant do this you need a better graphic card..sorry.

either my A.D.D. is kicking in or i am not being able to distinguish what is terminology to what is a name of a plug in but DRONE.org gives me a head ache...confusing. i am no brain surgeon...maybe thats the problem...lol. BUT i am no friggin idiot either...i think that this tute was done for the avid maya user and not the normal to beginner....which would be nice,,,,,,,,,,

Normal mapping isn't exactly a a beginner level subject. So you are going to have to expect to get your hands dirty with everything that is involved.

i understand that it isnt a beginner subject but maybe some 1,2,3 type instruction would be cool...does gnomon make a DVD for it??? I tried emailing them today and no response... or maybe another DVD tute???

5 is different...it doesnt have the same plugins as 6. I had troubles on 5 because im on a mac but 6 is too easy. The first tutorial reference on drone is the best guess if you wanna figure it out on 5. Good luck!

hoi.
quite interesting, that! I CAN do it on my radeon 9700. (i was being a muppet) =)
but... which parameter should the normal map be applied to ? assigning it to the bump lets you see it (ish) but not quite right, it'd be nice to have a normalmap shader in maya. does such a thing exist ?

thanks!

yea, im trying to figure out how to view in maya6 as well. My "high quality" rendering is showing a bump, but not showing the actual normal map...just looks like a nice bump ATM.
