i've got a chaaracter rig i've been working on that takes long saves times (from 20 sec to forever depending where im working from). The file is about 5.40 mb, has no lights, no textures, and i've used optimize scene size. I've scene these two discusions here:

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=218808

but i get no results from these methods either.

Do you have history on your objects? Controllers? Geometry?

Heh, I had a rig that took a full minute to save, but I also have 1.5 million poly's in the scene along with 156 dynamic joint chains.

One thing you might want to try is exporting out your rig, and importing it into a clean scene and see if that helps any.

Good point about exporting and re-importing. sometimes that works. Are you saving in binary or asci (.mb or .ma)? Try saving as .ma and open it up with word pad or something better, see if you can spot anything weird.

I have this same problem with one of my models. I tried optimizing, exporting as obj, and deleting history and nothing works.

The only thing that I used differently than with my normal workflow was that mel script mj polytools. It was began in an older version of maya so that was why I was using it.

just out of curiosity did you use mjpolytools?

there's a light linking bug that could cause this. Save it out as an .ma file and look at it to see if you have a few thousand extra light links in there..
