I have a script to match my IK to my FK and vice versa for a setup that has a pole vector control for the elbows or knee. Every time I use a no flip knee setup I can not figure out hwo to make the script work. What could I use to get the knee twist value so I can make IK match FK?

If anyone has accomplished this, I would greatly appreaciate help.

Also if anyone has any information on how a pole vector is calculated in detail I would like to read up on that too. I have found information on how IK works and how it is actually calucated, but not pole vectors.

Thanks for any and all help!

Hey,

Interesting. How did you solve the cyclic issues????

Nick.

Hi,

I have been trying to find a good solution for the no flip knee, as I am working on a automated rigging solution

I recommend use this method to get "no flip" knee, rather than the Art of Rigging technique

This way, you would be write a easy to control IK/Fk Switch mel script, since you only need the position of where the pole vector should be.

Cheers

Here is a slightly different approach to the same setup above, but i think with fewer steps, and it might be a bit more simple to setup.

After lots of scratching my head to the point of baldness;) and plus reading a up a bit more about Vector maths, I finally managed to figure out how to match the IK twist to the FK, when using the No Flip Solution.

This thread is very old, so if you or somebody else needs it, send me a PM.

@niic I don't really understand what you are asking. If you still have a question pm me and I will try and help.

@ everyone else Thanks for the help! I will be playing with your suggestions and see what I can figure out.
