WOW those are really unique! Fascinating.

how did you make those pics? looks like sculpted out of expanded polystyrene. Where did you get your inspiration from, if you do not mind me asking?

:hmm: doh, helps to read the original posting thoroughly first, i guess, lol

Damn, that's cool.

It must be the jpeg compression, but at first I though those were all low quality dig. camera shots. It really, really, looks like a clay/rubbery deal. Real nice, real natural.

Oh, and like everyone else said -- great concepts, great work.

Wires! (and did you use displacement maps? etc..)

Cheers,

-Tony Wooster

WOOW, thank you guys for loving the work :applause:

well, i didn't get the inspiration from somebody else's art,
instead, it was from an accident when i was trying some displacement stuffs...... it happened to looked like a head :D

i thought it was fun to add more details on it, and that was how the first head was made :)

So it was a low-res sphere in the beginning, which can be mapped with displacement map easily.

The "Edit Mesh" modifier was used for twisting the model,
this is the most creative part. It's easy to make something refreshing in this stage, but most of the time it just doesn't look like anything, especially a head. Have to twist them a lot to get something look not too bad.

and of course, the "Meshsmooth" is for subdivision and "Displacement Approx" is for the renderer to render displacements.

Man, it's a great artwork, forget the CG. I start hating all the perfect heads and statues I see around. Yours is like very personal, very original, stylish.

What was the purpose of those images? I think that if you make a little bit more in lighting/material/composition and render them in high res any art gallery or something would take them with lots of pleasure.

Good luck!

lovely work- initially i couldn't figure out whether these were sculpted from expanded polystyrene, plaster or even bits of plants & vegetables, so its incredible that these are made from polygons. even the wireframe looks like textiles work!

these 'happy accidents' are great aren't they? the bit i still can't work out is what sort of greyscale bitmaps you're using for the final displacement. you're not sticking your head in the scanner sideways & using the image as a rough 'height' map are you?

Wow! this work is great, I've never seem anything like this done in 3D before. I love it!

Maybe you could try one with a more shiney shell like surface on it. I think that would look really good.

Is there any chance you would show us the displacement maps, so we can get a better idea of what is modeled and what is mapped?

***** from me!

that wireframe is the best!!-- i love the material quality of it-- reminds me of eiko ishioka's operatic costume designs--- just beautiful--

do you imagine these as having bodies.... or just existing as heads? would be very interesting to see an environment for them--

striking original style for 3d-- interesting collection of stuff on your website too-- i like your drawings very much.

Really really cool stuff. I'd like to see how they look before the displacement, with just meshsmooth and edit mesh. Great work!

Hope to see a full underwater scene with the family. Good and original idea. I can't believe corals do have a facial expression. I wonder how will it be when they are in water..
