View Full Version : My rig fell apart, please help.
Nolah 11-02-2009, 03:30 PM Hi,
I was using a pre-built rig made by my professor. When I started to animate it the (IK handles? Joints?) became stuck to the first frame. Does anyone know what to do to make these click back into place?
Thanks

Hi Nolah,
Could it be that there is perhaps a double transformation going on? One typical case when that happens is, if for example if a spline IK curve is in the doNotTouchGrp in the hierarchy. Then, when you move the group above doNotTouchGrp, the curve still gets transformed and so do all the controlers as well (and the controllers control the curve so the curve gets moved twice) and the rig seems to break apart....Not sure if that is the case here but it might be something similar?

With out seeing the file or any other information on this, I would say what is more than likely happening is that those objects that are getting left behind have either
not been parented correctly to the scene
Have keys on them to stop their movement
Something that I am not seeing at the moment without more information
As always its best if you attach a .ma file of the scene you are working on if possible, or a screen shot from the outliner to show your Heirarchy. A screen shot including both your outliner and your controlbox for one of the problem controls would also work.
otherwise we are just making guesses as to what may or may not be going on in your scene.

Sorry,
That was my first post. I didn't know I could attach a .ma or .mb file to the forums when I created this thread.
I spoke to my professor earlier, and he said the reason it became detached was because at some point I had clicked on the move tool, rotate tool, or clicked on the rig itself when I was moving it from key to key.
