needs grass textures... and sand too, good to have beachy areas on a island.
If i were you i would do the largest render you can, in a birds eye view...
then make that image like 8000 x 8000, then take a tileable grasss and sand tex and start tiling, fading, changing colors, stuff liek that... that would get the land very realistic, then just modled trees , u can do those with alpha if u want a realistic look with not as many polygons.
bah, good luck, so far it looks good... reminds me of the first trailer for Pirates of the Caribean, xept not skull shaped ;)

There are alot of free vegitation models out there you just have to look around, sorry for the lack of help. Also it needs to be beachy by the edge, but you need to make the main part of the island blend into the beach. Not just a fine line between the green and the sand. Also Palm trees add a nice tropical feeling, or cocunuts in the water/beach. Lobster....crab....just throwin out some ideas. But anyways keep at it and you will get it

well as for palm trees and coconuts i don't think they would fit it is supposed to be an island near greece and fairly rocks and sparce, but there are a few small forests
now the scale fo this island would be about a 5 day walk from side to side so its not like giligans island or something. but the terain is quite a bit from roling plains so im not sure of its exact size.
oh btw does anyone know how to figure how far a 5 day walk in slightly rough terain is?
this was origonally from a rpg we played, and it was described to take about 5 days to walk across
