well... that depends on the type of smoke you are trying to recreate.. you could try several methods.. creating a 2d fluid container, using sprite rendered particles, a plane with some stock video of smoke mapped maybe?.. It really depends on the type of smoke you're trying to achieve

I just want to make a smoke sim by particle or fluid, and rendering it just like a cartoon smoke .
maybe like the cartoon ocean effects, 2d's look, also has selfshadow .
