Maya is so customizable, I was just wondering how everyone else customized their Maya? :) Post screenshots if ya can !

I always run maya with a REALLY dark grey background, and changed my default shader to a light blue instead of grey...I wanted to change it to a black view, but i havent had time to adjust the graph and other things to be visable....

how about yours?

mine is pretty plain actually. only the shelf's have been changed with some custom icons and elements of the gui hidden. though i too am interested in seeing a killer maya interface. would be nice to have a "my maya interface looks better than yours" contest or something :) good for getting new ideas for customizing it. i do need to change the splash screen though... with all the cool ones i've seen i still haven't bothered changing mine yet.

Hehe well mine's not exactly killer, but:

My custom marking menus didn't show up in the screenshots though...

I did a search for changing the splash screen, but I can't find out how big the image has to be. Anyone know the exact dimensions the maya splash screen has to be?

Thanks,

Lu

99% of the time I'm in full screen perspective. Dark grey background, selection colours, and editors colours changed.

I have 4 marking menus..

Main: Contains edit poly tools, Selection tools, Merge Tools, Creation Tools, Delete Tools, and Misc (center pivot, soft/harden edges).

Dupe: Duplicate, Instance, Instance and Mirror.

UI: Switches panels, layouts, and the UI depending on the task I wish to do.. FullScreen, Modeling, Animation, UV etc..

and Editors: Radial menu to get to Hypershade, Hypergraph, Tool Options, Graph Editor..

"8" is wireframe on shaded toggle, "9" is Isolate Selected toggle.
Shelf has a Project switcher for personal, and client folder, a timeline switcher (switch the timeSlider to 1|1 to 250|500), and a menu called MJ for MJ Polygon Tools.. sorry.. felt like typing a lot..

Im definitely a hotbox hotkey addict. Minimal screen clutter and spacebar gets a good work out.

Wacom keycombos, etc also come in handy.

"nothin to see here"

I wish more applications had spatially oriented interfaces. I also like Mirai's contextual approach.

What I use at school is to setup a user defined hotkey to hide and then restore all the UI elements, kind of like what wgreenlee has above (the HUGE pic!) :)

Ctrl+Spacebar = setAllMainWindowComponentsVisible 0

and then instead of using the same code above but with "1" at the end, I use:

Ctrl+Alt+Spacebar = restoreMainWindowComponents

I use Full screen and Xumi 2.1 a very nice combination.

Gotta admit I have been using Maya since version 1 and I don't really change the interface much. I have seen a lot of folk with some outlanids shelves but they end up talking longer to sort through than the menus. Although I do have a MtoR shelf and a MEL shelf. Maybe because I was teaching it for a while and the students need to see the default interface more ???

The only thing I really have different is a three custom marking menus (which rock hard when using a wacom ) :

Dynamics : which has lots of options and settings for all things dynamic including hardware render buffer and relationship editor

Mover : A quick modelling MM for changing the move tool from world, object, local, normal and now along rotation axis

Displays : which does things like turn on wireframe shading and xray

Also I hide the 'pain' and main menu bars and that damn toolbox and I have some things like the lasso tool assigned to a hot key.

AND my main pet hate is transperant hot boxes..... ugh.
