Hey all!

So I'm working on a project - it's almost working but I have one last stubborn problem. The notorious flicker. I am integrating Vue 7 xstream with Maya 2009, rendering in Mental Ray. The denser areas of vegetation (the grass especially) seem to have lots of noise in them as the camera moves. I see that there are flicker reduction settings in Vue, but I dont have any of those settings available in the Vue plugin for Maya ...

Alternatives I have tried so far are texture filtering - which worked. But texture filtering at 8% caused a 6 hour per frame render which wouldn't work. I tried rendering double the resolution and then scaling back down in post as a few had suggested in other posts but that doesn't seem to make a difference, either. Has anyone else tried anything that has worked?

Thanks much,

Ryan

8% leading to 6hrs a frame? weird....If there is any bump on the grass material, delete it, it will reduce noise, but I don't think you can get rid of all the flicker without texture filtering...

It is very weird. That's the only thing I change and a 2% filtering to an 8% filtering will send render times from 1h to 8h. I don't get it.

How can you adjust the textures applied to plants in an ecosystem? When I go into my material and select the layer with the ecosystem it allows me to adjust the plant scale and density but not the materials ...

Thanks,

Ryan

You need to open the scene in standalone, then in the material tab of the world browser, you can adjust each material.
