Hi, I'm watching the AFR DVD, and in IIB, he creates a pivot for the body by using a script - I have the script, but I want to know how to do it without using the script because if I'm working somewhere I wont have access to it.

Could anyone explain the process for me please?

Doesn't he go through the theory behind his animatable pivot in chapter 2A?

I don't know how to apply what he's saying to my rig though :/

And he doesn't actually say how to do it without the scripts. So it's not much help.

There has to be an easier way to control the pivot point? Can anyone suggest a simpler alternative that'd work for this rig?

Or would it hurt the rig too much to just leave it out, how important is it?

You know that you can move a transform`s pivot point by holding down the d key right? So if you want to animate it, select your transform and open the channel control window, how to get it depends on your Maya version, but should be under window, general editors ... What you want to do there is make the rotatePivotPoint attribute keyable it should appear then in the channel box and you can key it jsut like other transform attributes. This is a rather short explanation but hopefulluy points you in the right direction.

Only rotate pivot x,y,z won't help with animatable pivot. It will make object jump once you have rotation on that transform.

You need to watch 2A then, because he goes through exactly what the script does. I seen all his videos and he goes step by step, also look at the pdf that's provided.

As Jason said, he's covered the anim pivot stuff really well. It's actually the same method I use for pivots! The AFR is pretty wicked, easy to follow and easy to translate into different apps.
