CGTalk - Geforce vs. Quadro

What are the actual benefits of a Nvidia Quadro/ Ati pro in comparisom to the "normal" gaming graphics card in a 3d app like maya? What is the benefit of all the $$$$$$?

I'll purchase a new computer soon and I'm not sure wether to invest my money in a better processor or a quadro graphicscard...
