Hey ZeroNeutro,

Did the guy say that he created the pieces from scratch, without reference?? I dont know , btw i took a rapid look at the whole thread and i didn't find anything that would make me think so.

But, if he ment to make us think that it was all from scratch, all the poses and everything, he is in trouble now

Anyway, he seems to be a great artist no matter if he takes references or not! I think his works are all awesome!

Indeed he did.

And besides, that isn't the point. What he does is good. He is good at it. Not disputing that. But to reproduce a copyrighted photo or image like this is a copyright violation.

It is the same thing as someone vector tracing one of Stahlberg's images and claiming it.

if that were true then i would consider taking this off your site: http://www.zeroneuro.com/Webgallery/anna.jpg

cause of this: http://www.allstarz.org/~paquin/anna/gallery/work/af/almostf.jpg

Yeah and on the original page that was posted on I gave the source. That was a painting test I did and I never claimed that it was original nor did I post it as one of mine here. I'll be happy to take it offline. No problem there. All I am saying is that he should at least list the source.

Edited: BTW, thank you for pointing out that it was still linked to my portfolio. I havent checked that in a long time. Its fixed now. I am not against using images or photos for referance. I just do not think that tracing an image (and I painted that freehand from a magazine photo) is a bit more than just using it as a referance.

Cheers

I totally agree with ZeroNeuro. This guy knows Photoshop, allright, and is the king of vector (I really like his line stuff...and snoopy) but the first claim that this is 'original work' and the way he presents his workflow (looks like he starts off with a blank canvas which I am pretty sure he does not...he has got AT LEAST the original image in the background) is certainly misleading.

This has got nothing to do with language, this is common sense...

I'd be blown away by this work if it was painted from scratch (and this is certainly the way it has been presented). But knowing that it has been 'traced', I just think it is jolly good work.

I think you all are getting out of your heads. I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

It could simply be a matter of him saying the paint was his original work, and he is not posting some vector traced painted images that someone else did.
There are many forms of artistry, and I think x-fey is a master of this vector tracing technique, or what ever it's called.

Lets let it go.

I'd like to learn this technique myself. i draw with a pencil. I have photoshop. I'd like to learn, and use this technique over some of my drawings. I think it's remarkable what x-fey has done.

regardless of the suggested tracing over pictures his talent does the originals justice. Awesome work!!!

I think his lack of english has got some ppl on edge because of copyright issues, but if reproducing images and designs were an issue then quite alot of works here would also fall under that category.

Well Done!!

some of you are being a little harsh. perhaps he misworded when he said it was his "original" work, he might have meant they are "his" paintings, english is a flawed language, where things that apparently mean the same thing can mean totally different things in another context. Give him a break. I for one wouldn't consider this "tracing" that's like the old argument of calling an inker a tracer, he's put his own stamp on the work, he had to make legitimate artistic decisions as to line quality and weight, and lets not even get started on his rendering ability. That said, I wouldn't put this up for sale :) I don't think he was trying to fool anyone, the links to those Chinese forums he gave clearly show he posted his source material.

excellent work!

This might sound odd, but i reckon the line drawing of the TX is one of the best 2d pics ive seen! the lines and simplicity of it say more than any detailed 3d pic can!

Instant wallpaper material!

nice one!

X-Fey, I dont mean this as an insult, its innocent curiosity. I have always wondered why, in a lot of current Asian art (especially anime and design) white people are usually rendered.

When I draw people I usually draw white people because thats what Im used to looking at in the mirror. I supposed I just assumed that everyone else would be inclined to do the same, but that doesnt seem to be so with a lot of Asians.

Any insite would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dustin

technique very studied! but the important thing for me is:what step is the previous one to the polished drawing of line? it is traced of a photo ,or drawn.
I think that the form is the most complex part of a drawing, and depending on this, you will have a good volume.
