Hi all, my names Richard, but everyone short of my family just calls me Fox. (cant remember how i got that name so don't ask)
Anyway for a long time now my dream has been to become a game designer. I taught myself photoshop and have gotten pretty good at it. Now I'm teaching myself 3ds max and having a blast XD. I've known about this site for a while, but never got around to joining until now. I guess what I hope to get out of this place is experience and maybe a few friends to help me learn.
These are my first 3 models all work done by me. ^_^ Give your opinions please I thrive on feedback.
(the feathers and flaps on the wings are planes) oh yeah and it's a collar/choker

Not bad for your first three models (you should see what my first three looked like). Could you post a shaded wireframe view? This will help people give you a better critique on the way you model.

I'm pretty sure for my fourth project I'll be making a full character model.

Hmm this all needs validating so you will prob have a response before you read this,
im no pro so im not one to comment, your texturing of the comet is very nice and follows a ncie consistant style the why you modeled the flames is correct but not you only need 1x1 planes seen as the flames arent bending or anythign so par from that good start,
the sword is VERY low poly so you kind of lack in detail that could be made up with a very good texturing job but not much you can do,
as for the wings i personally havent modelled something in a sense that unique in complexity ive done fully fleged low and high poly characters and what not but i cant really comment on it it seems you tried to make it all out of one piece which may cause a problem if it were to be animated which i assumed wings would.
Otherwise good work modelling solid objects and texturing them well, perhaps look into topology a bit to understand the best way certain shapes should be modelled for future reference to save polycount and increase the quality

compared to my beginner work it rocks hard keep it up

XD Now that's more likes it. Thankyou, your critique is very appreciated. Oh and no the wings would not be animated. That is actually an accessory piece. It is a choker which can be worn by a 3d character.
Oh yes and if on the wings you meant that it looks like the flaps and feathers are part of the bone portion of the model. No they are simply attached to it. They are actually separate planes.

I know for a starting 3D artist you have alot of things you want to model:P, but you should start at the beggining.
Try to model small things before going to character design or so, try to understand the basics of modeling and creating your own work-flow. What most of us did was modeling our desk or room or workspace. After this you can creat what ever you like.
and about the models dont worry about comments do what you do an enjoy it :P

huh.. my workspace eh? ^_^ Kay I'll think about it.
And about the comments. I appreciate your concern, but I don't ask for critique because I desire everyone's approval. Understanding how other people feel about my work has always been my way of improving. I advance much more quickly when I'm aware of my weaker points as an artist. Improving and bettering myself so much quicker than normal it's an amazing feeling yah know?
^_^ Oh and the character model thing. I already know I'm ready for a character model, but now that I think about it improving my workflow would definitely be the better approach to this situation.
