Very nice piece. The shots are well chosen and the pacing is gentle but not slow. The characters look great, in particular the skin quality. Understated animation is by far the hardest to do and you have a fair stab at it, but there are points where I felt the characters could have been a little more expressive. Overall though, great film

On a side note, you should consider creating a smaller version of the piece because that took 2 hours to download at about 5kb per second, and that's on a stupidly fast college connection. Maybe a half-size divx and probably a quicktime version as well?

Would help you to get more feedback...

Water, I'm going to have to agree with Mattmos. The animation could use a lot more expression. Everything else looks great (excpet the fly never has a shadow).

In the begining, when he is tapping his head, it looks a bit awkward to have the whole hand move back and forth. Have you thought of maybe resting the hand on his head, and just having one or two fingers tap? I think the biggest problem is the eyebrows. Usually when someone is really thinking hard, the brow furows, and comes down. And when he has his idea, his brow never goes up? Just not enough movement in there. Speaking of his idea, I'm a little confused as to why he gets excited, and then takes a closer look, only to be disapointed again. I think I understand the concept of him coming up with a move, but on closer observation sees that it won't work, but I just don't think that it reads well. Also, maybe you could change his body posture more while he is thinking, instead of just keeping it the same the entire time. Maybe he could look at the board really low, and then maybe from one side. Try to give the illusion that he's really working hard to figure out the best move, instead of just staring blankly at the board. After he swipes the fly the second time, he taps his head with his right hand. I think that's just a bit too stereotipical. What could you do that would be different than "everyone else" when it comes to trying to think? Maybe rub the back of his neck? Or the stubble of his chin? After he makes his fly killing move, and figures out that it was one terrific move, and his head slowly comes up....it stops too abruptly. It needs to ease in a bit more. That's all for now. Please don't think I hate your piece, I think it's quite wonderful. These are just a few suggestions that I think would really push your piece that last 10%! Keep it up!!!!
