i was searching some rendering videos on YT... and i found this...
man, can someone explain to me please, why do MR takes my AGE for rendering a fur... and then, i watch this and fur is at realtime...
lets discust this.

This is one of those textbook cases where GPU rendering is a bajillion times faster than software rendering and it might very well be the future of fur layer compositing since you don't need to raytrace/GI hair (or you shouldn't). But it's early in the game - you'll likely see more of this coming in the future from Mental Ray or other big names. But until OpenCL, there wasn't a viable standard to use and you couldn't assume that everyone in the future would own Nvidia CUDA GPUs. The real work on this has just started.

And i'm sure they'll be disscussed a hell of a lot more in the future :)
If your having troubles with fur in mental ray, i'ld say check out a renderman based pipeline.
