View Full Version : Character Studio - Figure Mode - In to Out Problem

My file contains a skateboarder and the start of a few animation cycles. The feet are IK blended to a skateboard. The animation is fine until I enter and exit figure mode. Then where ever the IK blend object (the skateboard) is rotated, starting at a certain frame, the feet have popped to a different location. I've done experiments from scratch with a fresh reboot, file, and biped. I made a biped and a dummy. IK blended the feet, with sliding keys, to the dummy, and animated the dummy moving vertically. Everything is fine until I enter and exit figure mode.

ok, this little trick sometimes works, and sometimes makes things worse. Kids, only attempt this under strict parental supervision.

apply a layer to your biped animation before going into figure mode. it's odd, but sometimes this will stop the IK blending from getting whored.

or

just blend your ik to body on each blended key before going into figure mode. and remember, you could always just set your mesh to initial pose for any physique tweeking.

Cheers!!

I will play with that foofinu. Thanks. But I have narrowed the IK blending problem down a little farther.

It seems that anytime the object I'm blended to moves or rotates and I enter and exit figure mode the feet are offset a distance relative to the amount the object has moved or rotated. I've never had this problem with previous versions of character studio and what I'm trying to use IK blending for is exactly what it was intended for. IK blending (until this version of character studio) was the quickest and easiest way to keep the feet planted. I'm animating cycles and foot position is critical. If there is another way to keep the feet planted and/or attached to an object I would love to know it. Take a guy on a skateboard for example. The board obviously has to move, so how else am I going to keep his feet aligned with the board? Its disappointing because Max has always been a good package for me. Now I'm at a work stoppage and my options are going back to an older version of character
studio or find another package.

Thanks.
