View Full Version : Where's the TP tut for turning text to dust/smoke?

I swear I've seen a tutorial or example file around here somewhere for using Thinking Particles with a text object. When you put some wind on them, the text blows away like dust or smoke, depending on the particle defs, I guess. Can't find it in all my damn links to C4D stuff... Can someone help me out with this, or am I just hallucinating the whole thing??

Ive seen a nice example of someone using tp to turn text into dust and reform into a diferent text from that dust... It was really cool, but I cant find it either...

I just found sadie's example of putting particles on a text spline and reforming them. I think that might be what you're remembering. It's here (http://www.peranders.com/c4d8/) on down the page a bit. It's great stuff, but ideally I'm looking for a tut because I don't know anything about TP yet. Got a good idea but not much time to spend on it... And I left my damn TP manual at work!!

hey sweet yeah theres alot of great tp stuff there thanks. I too know nothing about tp, but Ive been trying to get used to it. And I refuse to read manuals :p trial and errors more mystlye. It doesnt work to well with tp though lol, so Ive been reading up. I still think the other one is out there though, I think it was using that new feature from 8.2 that chops things apart and puts them back togther as a diferent object.

Sorry about the spelling, I think I need sleep :) lol.

what i think you all are thinking of is called pblurp. this thing is awesome. it takes one object and fragments it into the geometry of another object. I think one can also instead of converting to fragments just use the particles themselves. Pblurp is an ubelievable tool for TP. I have never seen anything like it. Although i would definately recommend finding as many readable resources as possible. Trial and error with this thing usual leads to error unless you got a nice understanding beforehand. good luck. if anyone needs help using this little guy drop me a message on msn messenger.

Not really a tut but what you described made me think of one of jeremy's cool experiments wich you can find here (http://www.jeremyw.com/C4D_Stuff/LogoBlow/index.html).

CreativeCow has something like this in its tutorials section 'Text that blows away like sand', but its for After Effects Particle Playground, not C4D TP...

astrofish, that might have been what I was thinking of... In fact I'm pretty sure of it. Ah well, have to make my own then, eh? Got to try to fool with that PBlurp and see what it can do...

And Kirl I love that stuff of Jeremy's (all his stuff is inspiring). But trying to stay within the bounds of Cinema (and free!).

link (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49105&highlight=blow+text)
it was posted by fxgogo, its a cool effect,,unfortunately the links dont work probably because the files have been moved.

I sent him an email to see if he's still got the files. I could host them... The c4d file at least.

Hey guys, just saw this thread. The reason you guys cant get the files is cause I have changed host providers and I did not upload the files with the web site to the new host, as I thought no one would want them. I still have the files, so I will upload them when I get home tonight.

As an aside, I have been meaning to revamp my website, but I have just moved house and jobs, so life is a wee bit hectic at the moment.

just keeping this thread alive so we don't forget about that file.

Right, I finally found the file. Strange how a move can make you misplace stuff, no matter how much you organise and plan. Anyway here is the scene file in a zip:

http://www.slowlymakingsmoke.com/particles.zip

And the quicktime file to view the clip:

http://www.slowlymakingsmoke.com/particles.mov

I will be updating my site in the next month or two, so these links will be temporary, but I will still house the files there, but it will be in a nice web page.

He sent it to me a little earlier. Here's the real scene file.

Particles scene file (http://www.mechanolatry.com/images/cgtalk/particles.c4d)

Thanks Gareth!

thanks peeps. got it that time.

Ah, I forgot to say that when you use the scene file, make sure and change the material on the spheres in the particle emitter. For some reason they are the same color as the background, so nothing shows up when you render...

I'll try to fix it later...

Right people, I am obviously going mad and crazy. Sorry about that. I posted a fixed zip file and changed the material in the file so you can see it render. Lets hope this forgetfullness does not........now what was I talking about........:)

Thanks Gareth. I'm going to take it back off of my server now...
