View Full Version : How to increase number of edges per face?

Let's just say I need more density on the faces of my cube or plane, but I prefer not to use a modifier to achieve this. Can't I just adjust the number of faces/edges each side will be made with?

Thanks,

If I understand you properly, I don't think you can do this with a cube or a plane.

Are you thinking of something like Max, where you can adjust the creation parameters?

Exactly.

Well, in 2.49 you can't afaik.

In 2.5 you can for most meshes, but not a plane or cube. And the implementation looks a little buggy to me, but I can't tell for sure. For instance, you can create a uv sphere and then change the initial creation parameters, but if you translate it, the option disappears.

I suppose 2.5 is still beta isn't it?

Thanks Elamd,

Actually it's still alpha ... beta should come later next month.

And no, what you describe is not possible in 2.4x.

If you just need to increase the density uniformly you could do a subdivide multi operation in edit mode.

Hit [TAB] to get into edit mode if you aren't already and hit the [w] key then select "subdivide_multi" choose the number number of cuts and go.

This has the disadvantage of not being procedural (like the max aproach is) but should take less steps than a modifier.

how do you do this in 2.5 I have had a quick look and I couldn't find anything. What am I missing?

Check in the bottom left panel after doing your subdivide ... you can change the number of cuts, add a smoothing effect on top of it and/or a fractal element to the subdivision.

Ok that is the subdivide mesh operations I mentioned in my post. The interface for 2.5 is much nicer.... And is probably the best solution.

What the original poster was asking about - is that most of the Objects in mesh start out as a proceedural object rather than a dumb mesh. You can set the number of subdivisions for length, width and height individually. AFAIK blender does not do this...

This helped big time, thank you guys :)
