View Full Version : Setup question(needs expression)
SaucyJack 08-14-2003, 06:43 PM Hello peeps,
What expression would i need in Maya to prevent a characters hand, foot, backside whatever from passing through a certain control object?
Now, i want the control object to be moveable, for instance if the character was walking up stairs or jumping from a high platform to a low platform.
Any ideas? Is this used much in production?
Cheers

I dont know if this is such a good technique, but this seems to work for me and it doesnt require any expressions:)
Okay, lets just say you have a foot control and you've freezed transformation on it. Now its 0 in the Y axis. Now you create another control curve and snap it to where the ground would be right under the foot control. Call this footGrndCtrl. Freeze transformation on footGrndCtrl. Now parent your foot control under footGrndCtrl. Now go and select your foot control. In the attribute editor of your foot control go to the limit translate menu and set a min limit for the y translate to 0. This means that the foot control will not go below 0. Now if you lift up the footGrndCtrl the foot control will still be 0, so it will not go below this.
Hope this helps:thumbsup:

Thanks for the reply. Should really have thought of that myself instead of assuming that an expression would be needed. Ah well, thats me, over complicating matters as usual.
