After using the same lame P4 setup for close to 5 years now, I am looking to invest about 3k into a new primary workstation. I mainly use 3DS Max and ZBrush for all my 3D work. I also spend a lot of time in Photoshop. I of course want the biggest bang for my buck. Having not kept up with the latest hardware at all lately, I have no idea where to begin and I could really use some recommendations from people that use the same software and are satisfied with their rig. Specifically, I'd really like a processor recommendation. I am aiming to use Win7.

Should I go i7? Xeon? I'd like to optimize the setup for the fastest possible render times in Mental Ray.
