Hello!

My graphic card died (geforce8800ultra)

So I decided to buy new one. Now i have a chance to buy a quadro fx 1800 or any other geforce graphic card.

I work in maya most so I want to know if quadro make better fps in viewport, so when you moving camera around persp mode etc it moves faster?

Curently I have really high terrain with textures and I had low fps with my ex graphic card, would quadro help there?

I heard that graphic card doesnt help in rendering so I just want to know if you get more fps when you dealing with high poly models, animating, I mean when you are moving there with camera...

Thanks

A Quadro card will perform relatively the same as the equivalent gaming card in terms of frame rate. Where the Quadro will make a difference is with the tools and features in Maya that require a workstation graphics card (paint and sculpt tools especially). If you spend more on a Quadro thinking it'll perform better in terms of frame rate you'll be disappointed. Cheers!

Olson, thanks for the answer.

I will most probably buy geforce 275 then.

But after some searches I found this benchmark:

Why actually is SPECViewperf 10 show that big different between gfx 295 compared to quadro and ati fire pro. Maybe is this just an old benchmark softwere test and in those days are better drivers of geforce and are equal to quadro ...?

or it is just a marketing move..?

I think that those results have been mentioned and discredited before.

One thing to consider is that the 295 is actually two 265 cards linked together but graphics applications cannot currently use both cards. Therefore the comparisons are actually between a Geforce 265 and a quadro card.

Search for quadro and geforce on these forums and you'll find realworld performance comparisons.

Thanks,

Will search in forum.

Just want to mention... what about ati radeon HD5850 it has actually opengl 3.2 updated

Because maya and other 3d programs are usually base on opengl doesnt mean it better?

but in real world does geforce better job then ati in lets say maya?

I've used gaming card from both nVidia and ATI in Maya for a few years. Both suffer from the same issues equally because they lack the features of the Quadro cards required by some features in Maya and other software. In other words, it doesn't matter what you buy if its not a Quadro because they'll all have issues. Cheers!

Specview is funded by Nvidia.
