View Full Version : The Sideshow- character - swag
hi to all sideshow freaks :)
ok here is a little description:
You all know the women in Thailand with the long necks? giraffe neck women - they get some metal rings around the neck in childhood and from age to age they get some more so they get a very long neck a giraffe neck ok its not funny cause its true and today tourists attraction and i think its stuff for a sideshow in 1840-1900
so i hope in the next days to show u a concept

It's just nopt freaky enough, too real World.Done intentionally, not a freak of nature as most carnival freaks.I don't know just my thought.
The FreakyOne
08-19-2003, 02:54 AM
too plane, this is based int eh 30's back then alot of side shwo freaks had trumendus amount so of tattoos, put her in some sort of skimpy alfit and give her a full body tattoo
Jackmars - this is real world no freak here :) in 1900 padaung girls were sideshow characters -
ok you dont like it? have a go for a new one?
Bytehawk

It can work, although I would go a little more crazy with the freak factor
i want start modeling so someone can tell me if the concept be worth while or i have to do a complete new one - iam not clear about it - Thanks

I really can't tell if you should go with it or not - personally I think it's not freaky enough, but I'm in no position to judge that... I assume you like the concept of neckrings and so on, so maybe you could simply add some deformity to the other parts of her body.
Bluemilk
08-21-2003, 01:57 PM
I like this one, but i would just exagerate the ring issue by having not only the neck done with rings but other parts of the body too.
Whatever takes your fancy!!
Maybe she could stretch like dhalsim
dhalsim (http://dark-msx.host.sk/Preview_skins/dhalsim.JPG)
ok thanks for comments i go for it and there comes more rings some on the legs and arms like the real padaung one :)
-Bluemilk- the link didnt work for me but thanks

Swag I think that in this day and age a character such as this is more common place, mostly due to the fact the the World as a whole has become a more freaky place. With the media of today we are able to see things far and wide. While in the time frame of 1840-1940 this was no where near as simple to see other cultures and other ways of life.
If you think of this character in the period of 1840-1940 she would be far more freaky in that time period, also depending on the place of the freak show, the culture differences, she could be regarded as a freak in a freak show.
I think the suggestion of dhalsim by Bluemilkis a very good one.It could add more spice and creativity to your character. Also JamesMK suggestion of adding more deformity is a good one.Possibly more rings around the legs, arms even waist to streatch these as well.Even freakier. Also this can give you the chance for some Contortionist positions for the character, also some good rigging tests for you with all kinds of bends and twists of the body.
Here's a simple shot of dhalsim.................

Ok on with the freak show Swag.................

The body 70% good.
The face 20% good!
Look more for the eye topology and her mouth too.
You should work more in her face shape, etc...
And look more into your edges (It will be difficult in making realistic facial expression)
Check my topology here, I hope it will help you:
Face topology:

Mouth, nose and eye topology:
Link: http://www5.domaindlx.com/eyadness/016_3d_step10.jpg
Finally good work swag, keep on working
eYadNesS whats wrong with the eye? have a look at asian woman (foto) this is not a standard doll! the face is not finished :) the topologie is finished and whats wrong with the topologie? all muscle rings are there where u see a problem? thanks for your crit its welcome and the only way to get it better :)

09-10-2003, 04:58 AM
thats looking pretty good!
how did you do that skin shader?
stallion151 theory is here http://www.androidblues.com/shadetut.html
i used a npr shader for skin color variation
its the maya standard renderer with a 3 point setup und gijoe for ambient light no texture (cause no uv at this stage)
Karlstok
09-10-2003, 08:25 PM
Cool work,I think the eyes are fine, and the wire looks clean, nice shader, just maybe not freaky enough.Perhap when more is done thios will change?Nice still.
Karlstok thanks ... yehhh the freak factor is not so high :) but i hope u like it i want do a Karen woman and the freak factor is not so high as a 5 head 15 leg 20 arms lizard skined grand mother sorry :p

Not much to crit Swag!
Well, the ear could do with a bit of tweaking to make it more round. And the mouth seems to go outwards a little bit too much.
Other than that, great modelling.
McFly the head is a low poly version
when i convert it to hsubd the ear is smooth hmm but with the mouth ur right i have to tweak it :) thanks for the crit
screenshot

the cloth on the head isnt finished i have to tweak some verts here and there :)

Well done Swag.Yet another top contender for you. She's coming out to be real smooth. The forearms, calves, and neck all are longer, streatched due to the rings. The cloth/garment looks good too.She does look more appealing with the lips more in,not too protruding.I think the feet could use a bit more size.
This challenge does not seem to have too many finished or even near finished entries unfortunatly, but you once again have gone quite far, always clean in your modeling. While she is not the prototypical "Freak",she still is a worthy entry and a true contender for this challenge.
I hope you can still give her textures, even if you have to take her to the WIP section after this challenge.Anyways, you get two thumbs up from me,once again fine work from you.

One thing that would make it freaky in a different way...a pose where she has taken those 'rings' of her neck :D
Virtuoso thanks for ur words:rolleyes: - there is a lot of work (setup, skinning, pose, a prop (a myth stick...hmm who knows), a background, better lightsetup, uvīs and texturing hope i can do some things till deadline :)
KotsVlok she will die if she takes the rings away :)

Looking very good. You've got a very clean modeling style, I really like that!
I'd have to agree with Virtuoso about the size of her feet though. They should not necessarily be much bigger, but it looks to me like they narrow a bit too much towards, and including, the toes.
JamesMK ur right the feets are too small - here is a update - some flipflops are not bad what u think
