Here's something I whipped up in 5 minutes. It could work for a still, but probably not an animation.

Are you familiar with raytrace material? That is an easy way to make it look like metal and have it reflect.

hey thanks alot. i can't figure out something
how do i add a glow (and possibly animate it) behind the globe? like in the example pic?

You could do this type of glow by simply using a video post filter in Max. Just assign the sphere a g-buffer channel, and then apply the glow to that channel. :)
