View Full Version : Displacement Maps
the3DBEAST 08-13-2003, 09:40 PM I have been reading a lot about displacement maps. Is this a better way to do Bump Mapping....i know that Bump Maps leave you with a smooth edge, and Displacements acutally alter the geometry.....
I have never done this in Maya? I know this is a stupid question but how and were do i apply a displacement map? can i use a Bump Map that i created for a Displacement Map? Thanx for the help everyone!

Yes of course :)
1 Create a material in Hypershade and MMB-drag the material swatch onto the object in the view.
2 Select the material swatch in Hypershade and click the Show Up and Downstream Connection icon to display it's shading group swatch.
3 Double-click the shading group swatch to open the Attribute Editor.
4 Click the box beside Displacement Mat. to open the displacement shader's Attribute Editor and click the box next to Displacement to map a texture.
