View Full Version : space station landscape WIP
Tchuk 10-17-2009, 09:42 PM ok so this is my first attempt at doing a landscape so.... lots of experimenting here.
to describe it my station is large, VERY large, the city held inside is roughly the size of new york, it's surrounded by mountain-scapes, forests and even still under construction sections, it's solar orbit runs close to two planets and it has it's own weather system.
in the image I've tried showing the view from atop a mountain scape looking down on the city with clouds above while you can just make out the edge of the station whilst the sun shines down onto the landscape with 2 planets suspended above.
if anyone has any helpful suggestions or ideas, possibly some useful brushes they'd be much appreciated.
thanks =D

I suggest to change the angle of your landscape, to a more..dynamic.
It is not the same the view a building from an aircraft on angle , and not the same from a guy on the ground straight ahead.

This is making for a pretty slick composition.
I might move the foreground characters to the left a little. as is the right is pretty weighted with the structure and the characters in the foreground on that side.

new update,
i've lengthened the image and shrunk the people and city to make it look bigger, the original didn't quite encompass the scope i was going for but i think thats fixed mostly now.
added some ships and gave some extra detail such as shading.

this might be crazy, but..
I always see multiple moons on space world land/cityscapes.
why not spice up one of the moons, take a donut hole out of it, or something?
maybe the moons are connected by a land bridge? i dont know, just throwing ideas out there.

another update, trying to get the idea that this station is flat with a dome shield towering over it, hoping this helps that
and sorry i wanna keep the planets looking more like planets =P

Hey, i'ts your painting, do what you will :p
I like the tower concept. looks like you might have to expand the composition to accommodate maybe. All depends on how you pull it off.

just a short update
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a275/spoonerman/spacestationlandscape7.jpg
moved the background tower and shaded some of it out to add some perspective to it also adding some very slight glow to the towers to give off a slight illusion of a reflective surface for the shield.
