hey renders..

I have a testscene with an ball - which is linear animated through my frame..
now as this ball moves in one direction and i activate motionblur - i see blur before the ball and after the ball. but that is wrong - I just want to see the blur going behind the ball (like a trail).
BUT - there seems to be problems with that one under osx - maya 09!?

normally you can go in and take under renderglobals shutter open to: 0.2 and shutter close to 0.8 for example- then we would see a trail.
Not so at my computer.

oldshool would be in the miDefaultOptions to set shutter to 1 and shutter delay to 0.5 get the blur on the latter part of the range.
But either not so on my machine.

anyone experiencing the same or do I miss something here?

greetings
Bastian

No, this is completly correct (well, depending on where the shutter opens on the camera, but ill leave this for now).

Check these out, the ball will almost always be most infocus in the middle, with blurs going back/forward from the point:

(there are better examples probably than this)

ok, thanks for clearing things up on reality basis!

Well but on technical terms I'm still interested in how to get the trail. Cause if you want to emphasis movement in one direction in an still - that's the only way to do so..

thanks in advance

not sure with mental ray, but in prman it's all linked to shutter openning and closing times, so maybe check out the mental ray's shuttter options.

But, althought it seem counter-intuitive, this is totaly cool, no one will think it looks strange when it's in motion.

Hi
Yes change the default Shutter Angle (144) in your cameraShape to 180 or 360
and Increase the motion Blur By in Motion blur setting to give it more trail.
Hope this help!

this is what I have with Mentalray:

this is what I want to have.
It's absolutely easy to achieve with mentalray but there might seem to be a bug.

if you just want a still, maybe just do some linear blur in comp/photoshop? As i said, its totally phyically correct what your seeing, so it's kind of going against what mental rays trying to do to get what you want.
