Qslugs, is that what animate 4/studio 1.5 looks like by default or did you customize it? It seems the dark grey interfaces are starting to take over the 3d world. Not that I mind, it looks pretty cool :)

Its the Darkstar preset. If you right click on the tabs on the top of the messiah interface you get more options for all sorts of things related to the coresponding windows. I agree though, messiah looks pretty cool now. I think the darker interface is a bit easier on the eyes as well. Hopefully we'll all be able to set colors and whatnot in the updated releases. I have yet to even explore that aspect of the program. I am assuming though that if you cant yet change the way the interface looks, you soon will.

Another screenshot of messiah rev 9a. Shows a bit of the F5 tray detail at the bottom that holds materials, motions and scripts. Autorig used on the red hot alien rendered with radiosity.

Love that autorig!

Aaaah Chewey :D a LW user I know :)

Speak to me, what's your opinion about Messiah (Animate or Studio)
I'm seriously thinking about it. Too much struglle with LW rigging...
Also I've heard that there is now an endomorph importer, how does it look like ?
About the rendering, I see radiosity every where here, looks nice and fast. What about the classical rendering, have you tested it ? How does it compare to LW ?
And the UV's, did you get into troubles ?
Mmm, and also I know that shadow maps lights are missing :surprised how do u live without them ?

So and so... I guess you're using at the moment a combination of MA and LW, do you plan to migrate to a single app ?

Not that I am Chewey but here's my take. From what I have heard the renderer has a couple things that need finished. And there appears to be a few bugs left that need working out. They are very close with the rev9 though. Any release estimates they give now I would think are fairly accurate.

I believe one is able to render now for the most part and not have to worry if a setting is going to crash messiah. I think I have crashed the program once since last weekend. I can't remember what I was doing offhand. But it feels very stable. There should be a patch out soon for some bugs that we all have found since last week as well.

Lyle and Fred from PMG has been very responsve as far as getting back to everyone and listening to any problems that users are having. Not that they weren't before however on the yahoogroups list I think Lyle may be writing about 50 posts per day. I can't say that isn't time consuming.

As for rigging in messiah, I don't know what they're going to add in LW 8 to make rigging more friendly. To me, LW is still LW. Until they rewrite the entire thing, I won't even consider using it for character animation. I use Maya on a daily basis at work, I know what I consider to be the right way and the long way to do something.

Also, the updated renderer and most of the other new tools have been out for only a week now. I dont know that many people have done much with either the renderer, lack of shadow maps ( they might just be turned off though.) or endomorph import. You might have to wait a bit longer to get a real response from anyone.

Although I purchased messiah when it was first offered I haven't spent much time with the revs that have been previously offered as i wanted to wait until I could use uv mapping with my legacy characters. I've found that I could get satisfactory results with LW and Maya for animation in the meantime using Beaver.

This recent 9a rev looks very promising and there is some amount of bug fixing and feature implementation that should get taken care of in the next couple of patches. The yahoo group is providing valuable feedback for pmg in helping identify quirks and feature tweaking.

The autorig feature is very nice and a real time saver even with the basic rig offered in it's first appearance in rev 9a.
Shouldn't be too long before we see some fancier and more elaborate autorigs from pmg and users. One thing that struck me about this new rev was that in the earlier revs I had always missed being able to use the weight maps from LW's models. I never cared for the approach of rigging like in pre LW6 mode using additional bones to fight unwanted bone influence in areas such as shoulders etc. However I've been using messiah's autorig on a few biped characters and have found the results achieved just adding two extra influence bones (one under each shoulder on either side of the chest)
quite satisfactory in the resultant shoulder deformations.

The next patch of messiah should have a fix for the uv mapping and some other rendering and texture features that need some tightening up but I have faith that other features such as shadow mapping and others will get implemented eventually. The renderer is not complete by pmg's own admission but Fori is apparently focusing primarily on the renderer so we'll just have to wait a bit longer but I expect good things.

Overall it's behaving pretty stable for me. Once a newer patch gets released I'll post a few more shots and comments.
