I like the second one better, and to be helpful I'll tell you why.

First, the top one is more difficult to read. The main character image's face is dark and the lines drawing throws my eye off rather than contributes to readability. The lines, while interesting and nicely graphic, makes him flat instead of jumping off the page at me. You have so much shading and shaping in the fill colors, the hatching becomes unnecessary and instead starts to detract from the intensity and strength of this dude.

Also, the second outline drawing in the background completely throws off the composition and, because it's so much rougher than the main painting, detracts from the energy. Also, it becomes obvious that this is photoshop layers (the way the yellow glow around the guy runs over the line drawing on the side) and IMO this blows the believability.

I like the second one, certainly because it doesn't have any of the above drawbacks, but also the colors are more energetic (yellowish instead of bluish), the face is way more readable, and the muscles really stand out on their own without the lines.

However, I would like to see more details painted in, especially in the gloves and the shorts -- where the line drawing version actually accentuates the details, the second one loses a lot in these areas.

Also, My eye is continually drawn to the legs. Why are these left unfinished? I know you are probably trying to simulate dust, but I would at least like to see as much detail in the parts of the toe/foot/ankle that show through the dust as you put into the face and arms.

However, the second one is pretty stippled looking, this is a cool style but it might be too much, it looks like a filter you added? I would leave this off. It's distracting and makes it obviously photoshopped.

(And, hellmare, if you don't have anything to contribute, don't bother posting. Reading what you wrote is a waste of our time. :annoyed: )

jellyfish you are great! that's whole lot of coments.. learn a lot from ya!
But the 2nd is not a photoshop filter.. it's a painter6.0 brush effect
and your comments are damn right, that's what i think so too
i prefer the 2nd wan myself

I think he's great. Personally, I really don't think there's a difference between the 2. I mean, the outlined one makes him standout more, but that version might standout more because of the type of color he is compared to the other one. Maybe the unoutlined version gives him a more darker, grosser feel (since he is a bad guy, right?). He looks like he could be a character from the Spawn comics. Keep it up!

and i think the 1st work was more impactful........the color moods... the style.....the texture..... where the 2nd one seems to be more normal in compare to the 1st one!!!!
