View Full Version : Newb question: working with layers in timeline
I'm beginning to lay down some base animation tracks and I'm trying to organize them with layers. But even though I'm showing only in Layer 2, when I add a new object to the timeline it comes in on Layer 1, which is the default I suppose. I have to then show Layer 1, select the new track and control-click Layer 2 to move it over. Is there a way to get the new parts to come in on the layer in which I am working? Or at least an easier way to do this? Thanks!!

Maybe I should ask a different question. Does anyone use layers in their timeline, and if so, what sort of workflow do you use?

i don't use layers in the timeline, except for grouping huge timelines. mostly though i'll just lock the timeline, and drag in the elements i want to animate.

Almost anyone I've talked to says I'm mad about how I animate. I don't touch or go near the timeline and curves till my key poses are set and then only for timing as I would on a classical dopesheet. I don't deal with seperate things at the same time, one character, one scene object So layers is not a big thing to me, granted its not like I'm doing big huge scenes. Curves I use more with things like cameras and lights, for my characters I tend to get a little "sloppy" and record keyframes to control my timing, if I want someting to slow in, I record the keyframes of it slowing in rather then using the curves. Why? I feel I have better control and a little rawness that computer tweens don't offer much the same when I was working in flash at school.
