Sorry, for the newb questions. I dont own C4D yet. Im very seriously thinking of purchasing it. Anyway Ive seen alot of cool shaders done with SLA and I also heard that plugin went away am I right? If so is 8 capable of the same things

The examples on this guys site of things he experiemented with were very cool

Is 8 capable of this stuff?

Also anyone one use dark tree with C4D? DT is very cool with LW.

Lastly Ive read that C4D dynamics were "production quality" Im not sure what that means. Are they not that good capared to Maya? have to be better than what is saw in LW 8

The bove was not meant to start a falme package war just asking why someone would say they arent "production quality"

SLA is included in C4D R8 and yes they are really nice.

Don't know if C4D dynamics are better as LWs or Mayas.
The "production quality" slogan is pure advertising I think.

Maxon bought SLA, so it has shipped with every version of Cinema after 7.3. Currently there are some limitations on SLA's use in R8, because it runs in compatibility mode. Basically the limitations relate to animation, i.e., you can't animate SLA parameters except for those that are animated by SLA itself. Hopefully Maxon will have SLA better integrated in the not too distant future.

Yep, Simbiont works with Cinema, although I don't think there's a Mac version yet. The only limitation is that Darksim hasn't yet made their shaders work with radiosity. They've said they will address this in a future release.

I don't use Dynamics, but from what I've heard they are not as good as Maya's. I'm not familiar with LW's, so I can't comment on that.

production quality just means they are of a quality good enough to be used in a production (any project, from a hollywood movie through to some tiny ad, or whatever smaller project). maya's dynamics are better at handling a larger number of collisions with rigid bodies, and it's softbodies are better.
