CGTalk - vue in mental ray

so i have been messing around with vue ple in maya. when it says it has rendering support for mental ray, what does that mean exactly? it doesnt seem to do what i would expect it too.

does it mean that it can use mental ray materials and such on NON-vue objects, but still renders with the view render-er?

Yes, excatly. Each renders its own, with cross lighting, shadows and reflections.
