I am comming from Rhino and working my way through tutorials and the manual and would like to know how or if C4D can use a surface to split/trim another surface or primitive.

For instance in Rhino, I have a cube and make a triangle, square, circle ... whatever. I extrude the triangle through the cube and use the extruded surface to split the cube. Then I can either delete the split section or move it or do what ever with the split surface.

Is there such a function in C4D ? or how would y'all go about doing this ? Make the triangle a solid and boolean it ? I tried the knife command to "try" to create the triangle without much luck.

Sorry if this sounds too basic.

thanks and regards,
bob

Basically you'd do it the same way in Cinema, except using booleans. Extrude the shape and then boolean it out of the cube. You can make the boolean editable if you want to have the actual (not generated) geometry. Most times the Better Boole plugin produces better results than the native boolean operator. BB can be downloaded from Maxon's site.

There is -- look up booleans. They're easy to work with, though
they don't always produce the nicest geometry.

The manual has decent (and illustrated) explanations on how to
use them.

I think that will take care of what you're trying to do :)

Make sure you use Better Boole, and not the standard Boolean fuction - You can find it in the plugin menu in C4D

Thanks for the replys, I do appreciate it. I kinda-sorta figured that boolean would do the trick.

Better Boole.. eh .. well I'm off to get my first Plug-in.

Again, thanks for the help.
