View Full Version : subdivision approximation rendering problem
tinitus 10-15-2009, 01:36 PM hej!
I ve got a fully rigged character and everything is rendering fine. but when I try to create a subdivision approcimation node the character isnt rendering at all.
there is no error message.
where the character should be is just nothing.blank..
anyone any suggestions?
thx

Sometimes non-manifold surfaces cause problems for subdivision approximations. Usually you can find an error in the log. The subdivision proxy can be more forgiving.

Subdivision... Proxy?
What the heck is that?? :)
i've only ever known about subdivision approximation nodes. Whats a sub proxy?
Edit: oh wait, im an idiot. "3" on the keyboard. Here i was hoping for some awesome new method of working with subdivisions i didnt know about. :)
No, actually I meant the one in the menu "Proxy|Subdiv Proxy".
This would link the original mesh to a new one via a polySmoothProxy node. It's what we used before the '3' key method. I think that the algorithm used to smooth is different, and sometimes the polySmoothProxy is more tolerant of strange topology. And you also get a choice between "exponential" and "linear" smoothing methods.
