View Full Version : Computer gets red dots please help
razeverius 10-15-2009, 01:44 PM Hi! Recently I've been having a problem with my computer. It gets these red and green dots here and there then it lags. then when i open my computer..at the start up..it has dots too but this time they are just white. Now I don't really know much about computers but my vid card is an Nvidea GT 8800. I noticed though when I put an electric fan beside my computer it doesn't lag anymore but sometimes still does.
Does it have to do something with the heat? I live in the philippines and it is damn hot here
here's a screenshot i was able to get. You can see some red dots

Looks like video memory problems. Could be related to component failure, overheating, inconsistent power, etc. Probably the easiest thing to check would be the temperature. If you have another video card around install it and see if it still happens, or try your current card in another system. Cheers!

Yup, random single pixels = video ram corruption. Caused by a faulty chip, bad connection or overheating; most often the latter.
If youre not scared, take the video card out, remove all the dust you see clogging it up, then if you can remove and re-fit the heatsink/fan.

hi guys thanks for the replies :) I've disassembled my computer and cleaned up the whole thing. It was working for some time until I started getting the glitches again. I took out the cover of my computer and put an electric fan beside it just to cool it but it doesn't seem to work. This is the first time this has happened to me. I've used an Intel DG33FB before but then it got short circuited before and was replaced with an Asus P5KPL-AM since the Intel I had was out of stock. And this thing started happening when I had the Mobo replaced.
I'm not sure if it's related but just to say that I noticed that this is the first time I've had to leave the computer case open with an electric fan ever since I changed the mobo. Must be a coincidence. But like I said. I don't really know a lot about computers.
