I can tell you something about my workflow and hardware setup on desk.
I prefer to have different options available, thatīs why I have a tablet, regular mouse and trackball on the table.
The mouse I use for quick and really rough tasks, my tablet comes in handy when I scetch and paint or I need to make some fine adjusments during animating, modeling ect.
Trackball I use for both, when I like to take a rest or I feel boring from tablet or mouse.
Switching between all is much more fun to work for me and it never start to get boring.
Regards!

Whatever you're most comfortable with, personally I find tablets great for photoshop work and awkward for anything else, especially if I need to do anything precise or need to type.
