View Full Version : Droping an object face onto another face?
Mentat7 08-13-2003, 02:29 PM I am attempting to model small protrusions which I want to attach to the face of another object. I have been moving everything by hand. Is there a built in function that can accomplish this? I have looked through the docs and menus but I am not even sure what the term for it would be. Example...I have a belt and I have some large elaborate spikes I want to attach to the belt surface. The belt is not linear...it conforms to the shape of the character that is wearing it. How do I (besides doing it by hand) get the spikes attached to the surface....make the base of the spike align parallel to the belt surface and then make contact with it? I've been doing it by hand but it is very tedious that way. Wings has a command to do this called Put On. Is there something similar in C4D or is there a process? Thanks in advance for your help.

The chestnuts plug might do what you're looking for. http://homepage2.nifty.com/aquawave/e/cafeteria/index.html. Also, you might try selecting an edge that goes around the belt, converting it to a spline, then using the arrange command to put spikes onto the spline. However, I've found with this method that it can be difficult to control orientation precisely. I've had much better luck with Multiple Spline Attach (http://www.xlentplugs.com/).

Cinema doesn't have this function built in, unfortunately. But you can do this pretty easily with the powerAxis plugin, available at http://www.astrofish.com
or SurfacePainter by Paul Everett www.c4dtools.de

Thanks for the help Roger!
AdamT I think that plugin might just be what I am looking for. Thanks! Hopefully this functionaility has been suggested to Maxon?
Thanks Pit! I had thought about that plugin as well. Was just hoping there was a builtin solution before I started shopping for solutions.:)
Roger, Chestnuts looks interesting, but I couldn't find any english docs. Do you know a little more about how it works? BTW, the page has moved. The aquarius plugin page is now: Aquarius Plugs (http://homepage2.nifty.com/aquawave/e/cafeteria/index.html)

Oh yeah, Ditools would also do this and (at least until v.1) it's free.
I just found one of Paul Everett's free plugs that might work for you for this application. Check FingerPaint at this site (http://www.bookwoodarts.de/pe/). Haven't tried it yet, but it looks good.

Don't think there are English docs for it. I heard about it some time ago through Postforum. Haven't actually used it myself. Now that I look at it closer, it probably wouldn't work for placing objects on faces. Looks like it only works with points.
