I am using Max 2009 and while rigging up IK most tutorials have you use the IKHISolver.

I find that when I move the null around to test the IK chain the bones jitter their way into place. However if I use the IKLimb for a solver the bones are much more smooth in animating.

Am I missing a setting that will make the bones for the IKHISolver smooth out?

Thanks

You can go under the motion panel with the actual hi solver selected, and try lowering its threshold values. If you're working in a very small scale with the default values, there's a jitter motion when moving it around. Try lowering the values to something like 0.005 or 0.002 and see if that smooths it out.

Worked like a charm, thanks! Weird, I'm working with 5'5" - 6'5" characters. So they aren't that small.

I guess with that out of the way, what is the difference between the two? Why would you use one over the other?

Thanks.
