I'm running into a bit of a problem with rigging this robot character I'm working on. I'm relativly new this, so you'll have to forgive me if I've made some major errors in my setup sofar :P

Basically I'm trying to constrain the joints in the arm of the robot so the objects that there linked to can only deform in certin directions. I setup the limits for the joints and appled the IK handle, the constraints hold up fine under deformation, but the orientation of the IK handle and solver won't allow me to deform in the directions that I want. I'm woundering if there's a way to reorient the IK solver without changing the joints there linked to or to setup a second set of joints with the IK solver and have it somehow linked to the first set of joints.

Here's a screenshot of the skeleton
