The general idea is to connect the ambient occlusion shader to all other materials in your scene, then the scene is nicely shaded without any lights, the problem is i would like to have controll over all reflections/refractions in my shaders.

I played with mentalray shader, putting AO in surface slot, also with arch/design shader's special slots for AO. it did not work, i still got only reflections/refraction without the shading, or only mentalray AO without reflections/refractions.
