View Full Version : Using a video fragment a s texture on a plane, is it possible, and how to do it ?
Ramzes_II 08-13-2003, 01:00 AM Subj.
I have this little problem that needs to be solved quickly, but I don't have much experience in rendering and texturing, so I can't figure out how to do it...I noticed a 2d texture "movie" node in hypershade, but when I'm using it with an *.avi file, maya always says only that this file can't be converted into .iff ....
Can I use *.avi or *.mpg ?
I don't know what to do. I will be very greateful for the solution on my problem...(I hope my english is understandable ;) )
Thanks to everybody i advance,
Good Luck !

Dont know if it will work, but try opening the movie in fcheck and save it as an iff sequence. Then bring it into maya. Like I said, I have never tried it so keep your fingers crossed. :shrug:

Yes, You can use avi, but only uncompressed (and only with default Maya's renderer)
Te best solution is .iff or .tga sequence.
You'll have do add small expression to Frame Extension:
file1.frameExtension=frame;

You can also use sequenced JPEGs if picture quality isn't an issue. Remember that all sequenced photo needs to have this name convention: FileName.###.jpg
It's also enough just to ad the mel command "=frame" in the Frame Extension field to get it to match current frames.
or you can just keyframe the fileExtension to get different playback speeds for the movie-texture - if you don´t want it played in realtime.

Thanks everyone ! You really helped me out.
...and can I ask one more little question...it's about the compression of output file, when I render into .avi, my 10 frames (800x600 resolution) renders into 20mb, it's too big file for just 10 frames, and for other players to read. Can I change the compression value in maya, Or do I have to render everything out frame by frame as a separate images, so then in some program I can glue it all together ? sounds complicated....
Thanks again to you all :thumbsup:
you need another software to stich your pic-sequence together. maya´s rendered avis are uncompressed and not really handable, but if youd like to use you´re installed video-codes try the playblast-window. there you can compress your avis.
otherwise you need a compositing tool (after effects...) or maybe flash for an uncomplicated video-format or take a look at virtualdub - its free!
