Hey guys!
I know that both max and maya is great software, but as all software (not winamp :p ) they got some up and downs. I was just wondering why I should go over to maya, and why I should not go over.
Modeling- Poly modeling. I know that maya aint that good there, but I can still get some scipts.
Materials-?
Animation- Superb on maya. Good enough with charater studio to 3dsmax
Rendering- Maya got MR, but lacks Max will also get MR and I heard it will be better on max then maya.

If u got any good/bad reason Why I should not use maya tell me
:)

About your question, i can only advise you to try maya, you win a lot of time in making effects that 3dsmax doesn't support automatically ( dynamics stuff, paint effects etc...).
About the shading it's a pleasure to work with the hypershade, make connection between elements etc... I have to admit that it's a bit complex when you begin but when you know how to manipulate your tools, and use the intuitive interface, you're saved :)

WHat is paint FX? 3dsmax will get a vertex painter in ver.6. 3dsmax also got a dynamik system. Reactor made by Havok.
btw. what is hypershading?

I am totally agree with cipher..
I was on Max (for 3.5 yrs), now i am with Maya (latest 2.5 yrs)
I found Maya has incredible video composition tools, highly precission dynamic & animation calculation, amazing particle tools & modifier, Fur, Fuilds, built-in paintFX, etc

The best thing with maya for me is :
1. Maya has Built-In Video Composer aka MayaLive (it's really helps me a lot)
2. I am able to pan or rotate the camera with real time while the animation is still running (this is the most imporant things for fast moving animation)
3. Maya has unlimited connection, I am able to connects everything (which is the most what i am looking for), and if i get stuck with Maya's default properties, then i go to MEL (the coolest thing i've ever seen as a scripts)

But the poor thing is rendering time :annoyed:

So that's why i still use Max for my client's preview and go to Maya for Final Production
