Can anyone tell me if theres a way to give a texture light attributes? For instance i have a row of tubular objects i want to act as light sources. How do i either give the model itself, ie. the objects light properties or the texture that's on them light properties.....or can i do both? Or isn't it possible? Thanks for any help you can provide.

you can`t do those stuff with default maya renderer without any plugin.. you need to use mentalray for that... refer mentalray docs....
there are also some mel scripts around which `fakes` that stuff..

i think the easiest way to achieve what you want is to control the incandescence of your shader node either by color or by a texture. the lightnig effect will only be visible if you render this with Mental Ray and this ist the only way to let objects emit light. Maya doesnot support this feature

i forgot - you need to activate Final Gather in the MR globals...
