Hello,

don't be too harsh just trying to make our way in a problem.

We've got a set up of a 8 legged creature. We've done it from scratch a couple of times now, and each time we get to a point where some part of the rig locks up. Its an ik rig and it won't bend any longer. It keeps happening. We don't think its gimble lock. We thought it might be because we were switching between ik and fk, but in this most recent file we haven't done any of that. We wonder if its somekind of setting that we're missing, maybe a larger setting.

After a bit of animating, the rear top legs have locked up. Moving the IK handle no longer will allow them to bend (though the legs will still move with the ik). Detaching the skin, deleting the history, and reattaching has no effect on this problem. My guess at first was that it is some kind of setting that was changed without my noticing but I then went back to a previous version of the file that had been saved before the problem took place. Even in this file the same problem occured. Is there something I am overlooking?

thanks in advance.mr

It's probably an orientation problem...maya 5 has a lot rigging issues...use 4.5 if you can and try it out there as well....keep us posted...if you have any controlers...make sure you freezed transformation on them...and when you ik it make sure the joints are bent the right way....front not backwards...maya acts weird when doing that...if I remember something else I'll let you know....if you would like to post the rig maya file ...so we can have a better look at the prob....if not keep us posted with more details...the pic you posted doesn't help much...good luck
