Hey guys... this week we're going to be modeling:
1. Electric Guitar
2. Legoman
3. cat
4. M16
5. PC Mouse

I've been missing out on some good modeling, I'm just never home anymore! I promise though, I'll try to get in on this one because I've got a couple tests out of the way and work is kind of cutting back, so I will be home more and will def. post up.

Have fun, and keep the participation up!

The pc mouse, mostly nurbs exept the wheel, done in 45minutes in maya...
I know, I should add the side buttons, and ad some surface fillets, but I'm soo lazy ^^

Electric Guitar, kept it fairly simple without going into too much detail. Finished in ~50min
Just glad to finally have some free time to join up for some SMC fun.

You and me both. I should have some time this week for some of these.

I have modelled the lego man in blender. It took between two and three hours, I had some problems with the arms at first...http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/2849/legoman.png (http://img508.imageshack.us/i/legoman.png/)

M16A4 equipped with a scope and grenade launcher.
Took roughly 6 hours, so I'm not sure if it counts as "speed modeling" but quite happy with the result.

It's posted but looks like Imageshack is not working right, had some connection issues last night aswell while trying to host the image.

Edit: Looks like server roll-back on their side, uploaded it again and should work now.

finally finished this one.. Took me something like 7h, but hey, it's not every day that you catch the flu, and have soo much time just for yourself ^^

Half nurbs, half poly (i love mixing both ^^).
After 5 hours or so, I've found out that my reference was not a M16, but a M4... But who cares, they look nearly the same ! (would have been fired 100 times if SMC was a real job)

looks great guys...

I just want to mention though, these are speed modeling challenges and because there's no real hardcore time limit placed, you should still try to keep it a speed model. i have noticed more and more models being completed in several hours rather than one to two. I mean the models are really nice but taking time to yourself isn't really what the challenges are about. its completing models in a short amount of time. being able to complete a model in a short period of time that looks good and was modeled efficiently and so on.

I'm not directing this at any one person at all, I just think that from now on we should keep models to under like, 2 and a half hours.

Yeah, should have probably read the sticky more carefully, especially the line where 1-3h time frame is mentioned.

rock on dude. very nice. it would probably take me longer than 24 hrs to do it

yeah, I'm probably the most guilty of many hours spent on a model. I just feel I learn alot more going for complexity. But I'll keep in under 2 hours from now on.

Time is our only limitation when it comes production, so if you can learn good time managament skills, it pays off, more than one is able to measure.

i was actually wondering about that, cause this last challenges everyone has been very far of time, and there werent any time limits displayed :P

took 3 hours on this m16, unfinished though =/

thanks waldo, for organic modeling, I always try to set up a reference backdrop to make things a whole lot easier. Although, as you can see, I didn't have a good reference for the cat face, haha.

good work, good work everyone.

I just wanted to ask if someone else can make the challenge for the next week. I haven't had a chance to really do more than check my emails and go back to shutting myself away lately.... Midterms... And if I want to graduate in May, I really need to focus so I've been working on school work and projects for school, then working and getting like 5 hrs of sleep. I don't have a day off cus when I'm not in class I'm at work and when I'm supposed to be sleeping I'm checking my email and seeing who won the hockey game then catching a few Zs.

I really appreciate it if someone can get a post up so we got some fresh stuff to work on.

I'm also praying for a chancve to devote time to a challenge. Unfortunately all I can do for now and what i've been able to do is just log on and comment you guys and then go back to digging my heels in on my school work.

I have a project that I've been working on for a week now, and mind you this is only midterms, this is my final project in the class. The instructor is having us do this project all the way to final and so I need to make sure I'm making it as rock solid as I can make it the whole way through since its such a big project.

Thanks for understanding guys, hopefully my lack of keeping up with posting new challenges hasn't disinterested anyone.

-Tyler.

I took 1 1/2 hours on this legoman. I also had a tough time on the arms...they still aren't right.

Don't worry, I'll start a new modelling challenge on Monday with a 7day time frame. You take all the time you need, and we'll try to keep the challenges active and strong.
