Hey everyone. A couple of months ago I posted a WIP on the luxology forums of a mountain bike and was asked by some of the members to create a tutorial covering how to model it. Well, it's finally done and available so I thought I'd let you guys know about it too since we all love the modo.

The Modeling a Mountain Bike in modo 401 by Geoff Swartz is now available here (http://modomountainbiketutorial.com). This video tutorial series is over 9.5 hours in length, presented in 1240x720 resolution and complete with the occassional mistake or two:) It takes you step-by-step through creating a mountain bike in modo 401. You'll start with a large number of reference photos and end with a highly detailed model all ready for texturing and rendering. I show you how to leverage some of modo 401's modeling enhancements and model efficiently to cut down on repetitive tasks and unnecessary geometry. I cover the use of replicators, displacement textures and third party scripts to enhance modo's toolset. For more information about the contents of the tutorial series click here (http://modomountainbiketutorial.com/ChapterList.aspx). This tutorial series is aimed at beginners to intermediate users.

That's an interesting looking tutorial, how big a file is it to download?

I purchased the tutorial yesterday and I have this to day so far:
The narration is crystal clear, easy to understand and easy to follow. I have only viewed half of the 15 tuts and it is intended for the beginner in terms of the hand holding approach. The modeling techniques are definately not beginner but because it is easy to follow, a beginner should be able to follow it quite easily presuming he/she has basic understanding of 3d terms and knows basic Modo layout and commands.

The tutorial includes several 3rd party scripts which the author shows how to setup. THis is a real plus if you dont know how to install and setup scripts....I didn't, now I do.

THe price is fairly steep, but in the end I know I will benefit from the authors knowledge. I guess every lesson has it's price.

I would definately recommend this to anyone who wants to not only improve their modeling skills but to also improve their knowledge of Modo.

As far as the d/l size that someone asked about, it is 29 100MB files that unzips to 15 Quicktime chapters. HUGE in size, but the videos are large (prolly 1280x1024) which makes it easy to see and follow. Just give ur self time and patience to d/l and you'll enjoy it.

One last thing, As soon as I purchased it I continued onto a link that immediately took me to the d/l page........................nice that I didn't have to wait to receive it via email which can sometimes take hours.

Hi Steve,

It's 29 files in chunks of 100 MB a piece for just under 3 gigs of videos & scene files. 9.5 hours in all.

Thanks for the reply too Geoff, will have to wait for payday but I am certainly going to purchase this.

I just wanted to clear something up. I'm not sure what happened with Gary but it's not set up to take you to a link to download the files after payment. Unfortunately I haven't yet been able to hook up paypal with my system that tightly (working on it thought) so I have to manually process orders as soon as I receive the purchase notification email from paypal. It only takes a minute to do once I get the email so assuming I'm not in bed you can usually get the email very quickly. But yeah, I don't quite understand what happened in Gary's case... anyway, I'm glad he's enjoying it:)

After I submitted the payment to paypal I walked away from the computer for a few minutes. When I returned I clicked on some button (prolly go back to your website). When I did I was instantly presented with the ability to d/l the files. So, I presummed it was an instant process that I only delayed because I was AFK. Dont intent to misrepresent anything I only reported my findings that now I see could use a slight revision.

Either way, I'm happy

No problem. I think I probably got your order right away and processed it before you clicked that button so it seemed instantaneous. Anyway, glad it's all working.
