DigitalNeutrinos 10-07-2009, 03:33 PM And I'm loving it. Fluid sim alone pretty darn neat.

You know ... posting such a confession on a public forum isn't the wisest thing to do, if you don't want Max to know what you've been up to. :)
Anyway, welcome to the world of Blender!

Welcome to the Blender "family".
Anything people discover first about Blender.... such as the fluid sim, the fast modeling, UV or most other feature that initially hooks them.... is only the tip of the iceberg.
Blender is quickly becoming a one-stop shop for "near top of the line" CGI production and freelancing.
It keeps getting better. :) But re-discovering a result made with your previous software and then doing the same in Blender may take some getting used to and some experimentation. In many cases though, it is still possible. Sometimes, Blender can do some aspects of the same result with more ease.
You will also find you are not alone. Today's Blender community has a number of people who have also come from Max, Maya, and Lightwave.
It's always happy to see more people joining the "family". :)

what got me interested was
* the Game Engine
* Windows discontinuation of XP. i don't want to be forced to buy Vista or Windows 7. by learning Blender, i become more independent of Microsoft's whims.
also, since Blender has a lot of post-production features, it also replaces some of the programs that are in the Adobe Master suite - which helps me step outside the Adobe cocoon.

Yes its like going to a client and saying i have this skill set and i have software you don't have to spend $3000 on.
max $2k plus
photoshop $500 plus
video editing software from $200-$5000
go open source
i cant wait until blender 2.5 comes out.:scream:

On Blenderartists you'll find a 250 page thread on Blender 2.5 development, all the major commits from when it was mainly blue and green windows is found there. One of the latest major commits (as of this time of writing) that users coming from Max will like is that you can now save your hotkey setups and can even be stored in a python file.

When I first used Blender it was on Linux. So if Linux also becomes widespread then that spells the end of Windoze Tyranny in terms of CGI at least.
Blender is also available on Mac O/S... and that would be my ideal combo.... A Good Mac, Blender, plus Final Cut Pro.
Shweeet. :)
If I post my view about Max and Blender this thread will be closed again.
After next release of Blender there is going to be an earthquake. No doubt.

Well continue to have fun Blending.. and do also take the time to embrace Blender's many other capabilities.
