View Full Version : 'spider' free
lostpencil 08-12-2003, 02:37 PM If you haven't seen it yet (on the cover of CGNetworks)... Spider is now free. Network rendering for Maya and Lightwave (anything batch-able). The cool thing is being able to frame slice... render one frame over multiple machines. Anyone try that yet?

Im having major problems getting it going ... mainly because ive never looked into network rendering before .
If anyone can give me a hand on how to use this thing please reply ... websites ,books anything would be helpfull .
I basicly dont have a clue on where to start on how to get my 2 machined networked together . Ive got a lan connected up through a router but im guessing id have to get rid of all that and connect directly to the other pc ??? Help im on a short time limit here im already in my 20's im practically dying already .... I NEED FASTER RENDERS !!!!!! lol
This thing apparently does multiple cpu usage on one frame you would think it would spread like wildfire amongs the maya, lightwave community.

You may want to check out their public user forum (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SXSpider/). Also, as you install, click on 'help' in the Spider Setup window. It will open up a browser and give you a bunch of details on how to install.

Does it support Maya 5.0 with the free version?

If you are still having problems uninstalling, you may want to ask on their public forum.

Hehe... not quite public: have to register; not in the mood...
Anyway, it installs itself as a Service and is not shown in the uninstall list nor it has an uninstaller... but, hey! it is freeware now, so who's complaining... All I have to say is thanks!
and it looks very flexible...
However still sticking to a simpler freeware for now...
Thanks for the tip and congrats for the initiatives on your site!:buttrock:
