Dear all in CGsociety,

I'm new here in cgsociety, so I hope my post is in the right place, I have a problem and I would like to ask your help!

I would like to make a project with mograph step effector. I telling my problem now:
Ok, so I have a cloner object in grid array mode with many cubes. With the step effector I can parametric change their sizes and location and ....
But , what I would like to do is to chage to cubes accordind to step effector but in a differnt way as I can do with the basic setting of the effector!

I would like to effect on the object in a define way, not on the whole object :

In a simple case I would like to only effect on a part of the object , so I would like to achieve a parametrical moving under the step effector and not a change of the sizes.

The effector should work a way like a parametric deformation of this moving, so at the strongest point the move is the bigest and all rest are fallof work the same like in a normal case.

Basicly I wanna move parts of objects under cloner object with step effector, meanwhile other parts are at same location,

I though is would be somehow possible to combine with expresso and effectors. or maybe you know some easier solution?.

Please, help if you have a clue!

Thanks very much

Best regards
Barnak

Try using Mograph selections, then you can isolate only the clones you want to be effected.

Hi JDP,

I know that, I can use mograph slection and I can apply a different effector on the selected part, but is not solving my problem, because I can't difine enough the new effect either, it will refer to to the origin object! and it will be again only possible scale or move x,z,y....

What I need is a specific paremetric move under a effector : for examle I array a cude and using step effector, I only wanna have effect on side of the cube on one polygon not on a whole cube !! that what I would like to difine somehow!

Ah I see. Could you post a picture of what you're trying to achieve as I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do.

Hi JDP

Yes , probably I was not enough clean, it is hard to explain. I post a picture now, I hope thats helps to understand.

Thanks

I'm not sure if this is possible. If you post in the main forum more people will see it and may be able to help.

Cheers.

I've found a way. No time to explain now but here is an example. Things to note are the deformer mode of the effector and the falloff settings. The red boxes define where the effect takes place. Oh, and also the transform space on the effectors parameter page.

Hi JDP

(Sorry for late respond, I had busy weekend, family...)

First of all, I really thanks for your help, this is a great solution, I made some test and is working very good.

So, now I'm able to control parts(Poligons) of an object and I can select wich I wanna modifie!
This was the the first part of my problem and now is solved! thanks

But! If I actually would like to use an step effector again on the selected ( IN YOUR EXAMPLE THE OBJECTS UNDER THE RED BOXES) parts in the array object, is not possible because is going effect on the whole array again!

My goal is to have a selection like in your example( works very good) and then effect on them again with step effector , so we could have steps between the longness of the move.

Do you think is possible?, I try to do it but I couldn't manage yet!

Best

Do you mean you want the extrusions to be of different lengths.

Yes, I would like to control the extrusions lenght.

wow JDP, this is really useful.
i've never seen this technique being used before.

I stumbled upon in while trying to solve Barnak0001's problem. I was suprised it actually worked. Unfortunately I haven't had time to solve Barnak0001's problem in it's entirety.

Hi folks,

This is my second post about a same problem.

I would like to use step effector on a polygon selection with out disconnecting the polygons.
SEE ON THE ENCLOSED PICS!
JDP user already had a very nice suggestion about a similar topic!

Now, I made my question more simple, so please if you have an idea let me know!

Thanks

Ps: ( I thought about that can be somehow solved with expresso? I don't have any clue)
best

Hi problem solved, I found out actualy you can drop a polyselection into the step effector menu
