This feels like a basic question, but I haven't had luck so far. How can I create a custom particleId attrubute? I mainly need to be able to reset its counter at my digression.

select you particleShape node. In attribute editor go to: Attributes -> Add Attributes...
There you should create a custom attribute, name it something like partId or something and make it an integer. There you can increment it on a creation expression, and reset it when ever you want.
