This is a character from a story I've been harboring somewhere in the back of my head. I used Photoshop 7, one custom brush designed to look like pencil on heavy-grain paper, and a Wacom Intuos2 6x8.

I'm at everyone's mercy on this, but I'm particularly interested in comments on the overall image and my attempt at a realistic-looking person.

Thanks!

I really dig the pencil effect. Nice. :)

Thanks! I started with the preset "Spatter 14 pixels" brush and these are the settings I adjusted:

Spacing: 62%

Shape Dynamics
...size jitter: 0% - control: pen pressure
...angle jitter: 30% - control: off
...roundness jitter: 26% - control: off
...minimum roundness: 73%

Other Dynamics
...opacity jitter: 0% - control: pen pressure
...flow jitter: 0% - control: off

Noise: ON

I would use the same thing for the eraser. The only thing I monkeyed with was toggling the "Other Dynamics" on and off depending on how fine of a line I needed.

Angry Art Teacher,

I've seen your stuff before, and this looks nothing like it. Don't worry, its a good thing. I really like the general look of your piece. She's definately beautiful and I love the way you paid attention to how the light would fall on her face considering the source. Its hard to belive that you did this on wacom when it looks so much like a pencil render. Great work!

BTW, how long did it take you to complete this?

peace,

Lu

Thanks for the input. This one took about 14 hours (not including eating, sleeping, and smoking). I'm going to start looking for work in the Seattle area and I'm trying to beef up my folio.
